Wurlitzer 2150 hanging on selections

by jukeboxlol » Tue May 07, 2013 10:49 pm

Hi All,

I have a problem with a Wurlitzer 2150 Jukebox of around 1957 I think
The fault is that the buttons and hence the number and letter solenoids stay energized for too long before release(around 2 or 3 seconds)and I was told that sometimes for longer- the correct selections are made and everything else is in order.
Upon first inspection the fuse on the stepper box ( 8/10 amp) had blown and I'm guessing this was related.
I have checked all of the button bank contacts and play rack contacts and the relays in the junction box.

Do you think this is a Capacitor problem? I notice there are afew in the junction box that all look original and according to the wiring diagram some seem to be in curcuit with the relays

Your help and any ideas would be great

Lol

"LOL" What you are describing is most often related to defective micro switches on the pin assembly.

Specifically one of the two that the moving coil assembly hit when they are forced toward the stop by the motor driven rocker assembly. The switches in question are located near the center of the unit slightly to the left of the main vertical shaft. There are two stacked switches, the top one is the reversing sw that reverses the rocker plate motor after pin punch and the lower one is the "start" sw that initiates the punch when actuated.

Dirty/pitted relay contacts in the junction box can also cause hesitation here as well.

What sort of service info do you have?

BTW: These mech's have some areas of heavy strain and must be lubed thoroughly for safe operation.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the reply
I have a photo copied manual for the 2150
I did look at those two switches but they looked fairly new and certainly one seemed to work correctly as when I activated it by hand the search motor would operate then stop on realease.
I guess the only way to be sure would be to replace them as I have noticed in the past a meter will not always show a bad one!
I will also check the contacts in the junction box again

Thanks Laurence
