HELP! My Seeburg LPC-1 has a speed control unit malfunction

by vintagetvdoctor » Wed May 30, 2007 11:12 pm

I have a Seeburg LPC-1 which I recieved recently that has a speed problem. I can play about 15-20 records, then the motor gradually slowwwws down & the giant 4 mfd., 370VAC clorinol cap in the speed control unit turns into a heater....BAD! Any ideas?? I have re-capped ALL the chassis in this box, but it still does it.

What is the voltage you measure on that circuit when it happens?

Check motor lubrication.

It's also possible you have a shorted turn in the motor winding that shorts only when the motor warms up.

Hi,

Try running the jukebox without the speed control in circuit.
I know it will be running on 33.3 but try it, to see if you get the slow down problem at that speed.

If the speed remains constant I would try and get a 45 gear set for the jukebox, the autospeed units were never perfect and over the years they fail in many cases it is the transistors that are the problem.

Hi, All! I know I'm posting a reply to my own post, but I'm hoping it might help someone else who has had this problem. It turned out to be that giant clorinol oval capacitor in the auto speed chassis unit! I replaced it & the juke plays perfect! Hope someone else benefits & doesn't rack thier brain like I did on this. Regards, Ross

Thanks for posting that--I would have posted that except for the fact that you said (in the original post) that you had re-capped "ALL the chassis---"

I've seen a number of posts concerning the autospeed problem for the LPC1 Seeburg where the suggestion is made to replace the 33 rpm gears with a set of 45 rpm gears. No one ever suggests where these 45 rpm gears can be obtained. Can someone provide a source?

I would think that Victory Glass should have them.
