Porta Fi

I have a GE console record/radio. It 's marked as Porta Fi on the radio dial. Exactly what is Porta Fi (I understand it's a remote speaker) and how does it work. Where can I find a speaker? Thank you

The GE Porta-Fi system uses a small transmitter in the console, tuned to a certain frequency.
The remote powered speaker has a receiver in it - and gets it's "signal" from the main console through the AC power lines in the house.
One simply took the speaker to another room of the house, and plugged it in.
Good luck in finding the matching extension speaker, it was an optional component at the time.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

Are the xmitter and the receiver tuned to same frequency in all cases? That is, every speaker ever made will match up with any Porta Fi?
