RCA New Vista Identification and Advice...

by Primesghost » Thu Mar 17, 2011 6:04 am

Long story short: Someone came into my job (electronics repair) and asked if I could help her dispose of her mother's old entertainment system. I helped her unload it, took one look at it and knew it would be a perfect gift for my wife. So here are my problems:

I can't identify it! Any help in this department would be great since then I could find a service manual for it. The model number on the back has been torn off except the first two letters: HF

Here are some pics:
There used to be a T.V. in the middle but it burned out years ago and it was replaced with a wooden panel.

Issue #2:

The speakers seem to drift in and out. They'll play normally for a while and then get quiet. Turning it off and then on again will fix it for a bit. Also the speakers get quiet when you change the radio from FM to FM STEREO.

Issue #3:

This is a bit embarrassing... When trying out the record player, I can't get the needle-arm to move. I put the record on the player and position the stabilizing-arm, set the speed and flip the switch to SEL. The turntable spins, the needle-arm lifts up and the record drops. Then the arm just sets back down and the turntable clicks to OFF. I also can't seem to figure out how to manually move the arm to position it on the LP.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You're in Electronics Repair?
And laden with these issues?
What do you repair?
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

Indeed.

When someones got a vintage piece such as that, a specialist is needed.
Someone who restores them as I do for my customers.

I'm sure there's someone local to you that can provide the service needed, and insure that nice old console sings pretty again.
It's obviously in need of re-capping of the RC-1200 series tuner/amp and a complete overhaul of the RP218 changer mechanism.
I've done dozens of them, afterwards, they sound great.
