Rowe CD100C ERR 05-62 HELP!! SUZO-HAPP CD Player Upgrade Mechanism Controller Board Error

by eielson_cuervo » Mon Apr 11, 2016 12:48 am

Alright from the beginning... Bought a 1988 Rowe CD100C last Summer. It worked perfectly until January this year. It even played burned cd's without issue. It started having issues with playing the burned cds, being picky choosey which ones it would play. I cleaned the lens as instructed in the service manual and then it would play for a few days without issue once again before I'd have to clean it again. Then it got worse where it would not even play the actual cds. It would select a cd, spin a couple times, no sound, arm would grab it and try again without luck. Looked it up, read some forums and came to the conclusion that my CDM4 was going out. Also found out it was a pain to get it replaced or repaired. Anyway instead of rolling the dice on eBay I went ahead and ordered the Suzo-Happ cd player upgrade kit for CDM4 for $250ish. I got it and installed correctly. Pretty straight forward instructions, drop in unit. I went to test it and no go. I got the display saying RAM test passed then "BE00", but no disc would play. And the display shows this message every 10 to 15secs. I got an error code 05-62 once in the maintenance menu. The "board error", "system error" lights on the CCC lit up consistently with with each RAM test. The "board error light also kicked on the mechanism decoder assembly. So I took everything a part, check my connections to be correct and tried again. This time when I powered back on the mechanism controller board started smoking. I quickly powered down and disconnected all cords. I looked the board over and no damage visibly seen. So I took it all a part and checked all my work once again. Same thing, no fixing it. So what am I missing here? Do I need a new mechanism controller board? Is this something else as in a power issues? The mechanism controller board is 61053401 with EPROM 70038325 V3.1. CCC is a 40832201. Please help a brother out. Thanks, Cuervo

Hi Cuervo,
First of all, are you sure you had a CDM-4 installed in that phono ? Second, what did SuzzoHapp sell you--was it a Phillips brand? If so, which model, or was it an "aftermarket" brand --and if so, is that company still in business ? Ron Rich

Hello Cuervo,

Can you confirm that the mechanism controller board is 61053401, is this on the board or on the outside of the plastic/metal case.

That number does not relate to the outside of CDM-3, CDM-4, CDM-12 or CD-PRO mechanism controller boards I have in stock.

Alan

Ron the original part being replaced is a CDM4 industrial Philips 31041470038.0 (stated on top of part). It's heavy duty metal encased, prob about 2.5lbs. I did some internet research and shopping. I had the options to buy the same exact part for $350-$450ish, but with no way of knowing if it also would be broken or on it's last leg. So I went with the Suzo-Happ brand new replacement Sanyo CDupgrade kit for $250ish. I read the reviews on forums all of which said it would be an upgrade and my best option. A straight forward drop in unit which replaces the CD player and the digital micro decoder board. https://na.suzohapp.com/products/jukebo ... 95-1998-00 . This is the exact item I'm replacing with. This company is in business and seems legit. I actually had to wait 2months because the part was backordered. I installed everything perfectly, but no play play. Thanks, Cuervo

Hey Alan, you're a superstar on here and other forums. I think every internet troubleshooting session I did prior had a post from you. I had to take off the black metal assembly around both the mech board and the decoder board. The exact words on the green board written in white are "MECHANISM CONTROL BRD ASSY 61053401". I kept the Mechanism Controller Board as instructed. I disconnected the "black" ribbon cable from the old Philips decoder board, detached the old Decoder Board and then lined up the black ribbon cable into a new wire trap connector which then plugged into the new decoder board. The cd player was already wired into the decoder board and was just a simple yank out the old Phillips cdm4 and drop in the new cd player. So what am I missing here Sir? ERR 05-62 states in the book: CDM communication failure. Message meaning: The servo processor on the decoder board has stopped all communications with the mechanism control for 20seconds. Probable cause: 1. The decoder board is not getting power 2. A failure in the mech controller 3. A failure in the decoder board. And as stated already the CCC flashes both system error and board error. The Mech control board flashes board error. The title display screen keeps flashing RAM test "BE00". Thanks, Cuervo

Have you tried "reloading defaults" on the CCC board?

Hi Cuervo,
I have had zero luck with the Sanyo players- I know SuzzoHapp is is still around, but I was curious about the provider of the CDM--If so, did you try to contact them ? Ron Rich
