selection problem Rockola 453

by coldshowerkid » Sun Oct 25, 2015 2:24 pm

Hi

I am new to this site so apologies if this question has been asked before, I have a Rockola 453 this problem happened when the Jukebox has been playing for over an hour, the problem does NOT happen if the jukebox has just been switched on for a hour. so after and hour or so of constant playing the selection issue is the second button auto selects the third, EG select 13 it selects 133, this happens on each button where the second and third have a match. if there is not a match for the second button EG 16 Jukebox will ask for a reset.

switch the jukebox off for 30mins and it back to normal , well for 70Mins

any thought would be appreciated

kind regards

Hi,
Your name makes this problem very "ironic"-- I would guess that something in the selection system is getting hot, and changing value ( probably a resistor?) To trouble shoot, I would allow it to warm up--check all voltages, then CAREFULLY using my finger, see if I could find something "hot"--give it a cold shower ( use freeze mist), and see if that corrects the problem--if so, change that component-- Ron Rich

Do NOT use freeze spray on this type resistor--it's a "sand-block" and supposed to run very hot--what I was referring to are the small components inside some type of container, or point to point wiring. Ron Rich

I don't know how far Sheffield is from you, but if close, you might want to PM "Ami-man" (Alan),to see if he can help you---

Hi
Maybe a problem with a component or scr on the selection control board, should be easy enough to get a spare and test and see if it makes any difference

Hi Clones, and all,
Did you ever see a SCR that was intermittent ? I don't think I ever have--either they work, or fail--I think ??

Hello coldshowerkid,

Welcome to the forum.

As Ron said those resistors are supposed to get warm, you need to explore in the control circuit, sadly I have not touched Rock Ola jukeboxes for the best part of 30 years, ask me about a Rowe Ami then I am your man.

You could try the services of Len Beddow a roving jukebox engineer, you will find his details if you do a search on google for Len Beddow jukeboxes, he is in Staffordshire but goes all over the country, I have know Len for years and can recommend him.

Regards
Alan

Hi
Yes Ron the scr will be either working or not, its an unusual problem, haven't come across that before, the boards are readily available and not too expensive

Hi

I thought I would check back in to say, the man who can has visited and the problem in resolved, there as a dry joint in the selection control PC board, soldered all the connections and now selects OKish.
so the latest is selects okay plays for hours however the third button selection needs a bit of help. 0 and 4 I need to hold until it selects
1, 2 ,3 makes a buzzing noise until it selects 4 and 0 only makes the buzzing noise if I hold the selection button down.
the man who can said this improve as I use it more, hope that is the case,
