1953 seeburg hf100g

Hello everybody!! i was wondering if any one had any ideals as to what would cause this noise

amp has been recapped and has new tubes

A poor audio ground, or audio ground "mixed up" with the system ground, or a poor system ground--in other words--probably a
"grounding problem" --also can be amp related--you don't say which amp is in it--- Ron Rich

the amp is a MRA4-L6
i might add that it doesn't always do it
everything else works fine just that loud noise and the beginning of record play

I guess the problem must be in the mute circuit, have you checked or cleaned the mute relay contacts?
No doubt Ron will tell me I am barking up the wrong tree!

Rugh, rugh---no relay in that model--input is simply "EARTHED" ! ( part of the "grounding" circuit)

Try cleaning the ring portion of both the input plug and socket--tighten the ring if loose, Clean ALL the pins on the two mech plugs/sockets going to the mechanism--be sure the ground screw is tight on the mechanism. And clean the plug/sockets for both the speakers, and VC. You should also clean the pins/socket for the 5879 tube--and you might want to replace that tube, if cleaning does not stop it--and if the AVC tubes are installed, try cleaning pins/sockets there too-- Ron Rich

well i checked the ground on the mech it was tight but i cleaned it anyways
but on the one mech plug in harness it was wrapped with electrical tape so i up wrapped it to find the wires twist together
i tugged on the ground and it just pulled apart and i said to myself "there it is"
so i soldered and heat shrinked all the wires and crossed my fingers and fired it up......only to hear that awful noise
so i tried a 5879 tube same thing
but i did find out if you turn the avc knob to off it doesn't make the noise???

Un plug the input wire, and play a few selections--does it still do it ? Ron Rich

with the input unplugged and the avc on yes it makes the noise
with the input unplugged and the avc off no noise

Then it's something within the amp--such as a "noisy" tube, cap or resistor--that will need to be detected and replaced.
You can try tubes first--one at a time--as that's the easiest to "fix"-- Ron Rich

just an update......it turned out to be the 6sk7 tube i had to order one and just got it in today
plugged it in and no more noise
