Rock-ola 454 selection issue

by dinga6969 » Thu Nov 27, 2014 1:32 pm

Hi,

I'm new here. I don't know much about jukeboxes internally other than helping my brother try to fix his. We have the manual and the internet to help us but we can't figure this out.

The machine play perfectly fine and accepts selections with no issues....until it's time to play the next song. The song ends and then the record just sits there.

We've reset the machine, tried cleaning it up, and made new selections but it again picked the first record and sat there after the song played. Any help is greatly appreciated. If more info is needed let me know and I'll do my best to answer. Thank You - Ron S.

Hi
Does the cancel button on the back of the machine on the amp chassis cancel the song?
Check blade switch below base of tonearm which should close at end of record and operate reverse relay in control box which in turn operates the gripper arm in reverse, clean contacts of blade switch and reverse relay. Check gripper motor also, i found recently with a rockola that would not cancel when i turned the motor shaft slightly it kicked into operation

Ron: Check to make sure that the load cycle has completed. It can get most of the way there but then stick and not get far enough to activate the last cam switch, but enough to play the record. It then just doesn't do anything at the end of play. To check, find the load motor it points down near the carriage, underneath the mech. the shaft sticks out the bottom so you can manually turn it. while the record is at the end of its play, turn the shaft and see if it trips and returns the record. If you turn it too far it will blow the mech fuse and stop everything. Have some extra just in case.
If this is the case more lubrication is in order. Mark

Thank you everyone. I'll try this stuff out the next time I'm at my brother's and let you know what happens. The insight is appreciated.

Sincerely,
Ron S.

Hi
On my 454 I had much the same trouble and I found the rotating cam shaft which controls the micro switches, the 2 set screws were not quite tight and the cam had shift a fraction and the switches were not in the proper location on the shaft. It's like a timing belt on a car but no mark to show where should be. When I finally figured it out I marked the shaft and the cam.

Hi
Had the same issue on a rockola 443 at the weekend, whereby the record would not be returned at the end of play and exactly as said previously the cam needed just a very slight adjustment
