DS160 amplifier

I just started recapping a SHFA-5 amp from a Seeburg DS160 and noticed the strangest thing....there is no fuse on this amplifier What was Seeburg thinking when they designed this?? I guess they just figured the power transformer will open and work as a fuse I know the first thing I'm going to do to this amp.

"Juker" - I suggest 1-1/2 amp/slo. That is what I use on the mono amps, but the circuit can safely blow the original 2 amp/slo as well.

I suspect that last tube amp was the victim of the mentality that creeps into the design and manufacturing process when a company's attention is focused on the next generation product, in this case, the LPC and all transistor amps.

One good byproduct of that cheapening and simplifying of the circuit is this amp has a cleaner, faster response than the older versions which used massive feedback in the tone amp stages. The "5" doesn't have the huge bass curve that the older amps have, but does sound more open.

Thank you Rob. This is good information to know. I'll use a 1 1/2 A slo-blo. Just a quick peek underneath looked like a much simpler design than I remember in an AY I had several years ago.
