It seems that my suggestion of contacting Bill Butterfield got deleted (by Politburo?).

So another step back on this machine. I moved this juke yesterday to do a demo at my shop and when I returned it to its normal location, it would only play B-sides, regardless of the selection chosen. The grasper arm will only rotate clockwise. A few times it actually became stuck in the vertical position with the 45 suspended over the turntable. I presume that something came out of alignment during the move. Any suggestions on troubleshooting this issue?

For the record, I am STILL waiting on the delivery of the manuals on CD. Sure wish they would get here already.

Toggle shift coil(s) and / or toggle shifter blocked ??
Where did you order from--how long ago--if "on line" rather then from one of the legit sellers listed above--
that's a common "complaint", along with "poor quality"----!

I ordered the manuals from one of the suggested dealers - forget which one (am away from my computer currently) but they are located in Canada. Having lived in Toronto for a year & a half, I know that the Canadian Post is notoriously SLOW

Dane, the since the toggle only shifts for A -sides the failure to do so can is caused by:

1) Failing microswitch on the stopping switch assembly.

2) Poor slip-ring contact on the stopping switch assembly

3) Failure-misadjustment of the microswitch on the cam which determines the toggle solenoid energized duration. If this occurred as a result of being jostled in moving it is possible that one of the microswitch securing screws was loosed from earlier work and shifted out of position.

All of the above assumes that the toggle is free to shift and the correct pin is being punched.

Do you have a multimeter? This is essential for any work on these machines as you are getting into the electrical portion of the restoration.
Any cheap digital multimeter will do for this old electro-mechanical stuff.

It is best to wait for your service manual before doing any attempts at adjustments in these areas.

Ron, thanks again for the input. Good news is that I FINALLY received the digital manuals in the mail today. Going to read through them tonight & hope to dig into this issue tomorrow. I do have a good multi-meter by the way, so no worries there.

Hello Dane,

Have you replaced the Annunciator drive cable? or did you replace it with a complete annuciator, if that were the case if you did not wire it correctly this could be the cause of your index issues.

The above is something that we carry in stock.

Regards
Alan

Finally getting back to this one. So the toggle system/solenoid is definitely having issues. The toggle arm will not fully actuate when an A-side song is chosen, either resulting in the B-side being played or the transfer arm gets stuck (as seen in the video below).

https://youtu.be/1V36-C3grts

I am experiencing a similar issue (only side B plays) with another box (Rowe R-81). I have a spare solenoid for this machine and swapping this part out does not fix the issue. The toggle pins move freely, so the solenoids are not seized up. Going to be trouble shooting these issues today, but any suggestions other than those above would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi Dane,
You NEVER should force the gripper arm back--If "stuck", remove power and turn the gripper motor cam back, as per the service Manual !
The toggle is strictly mechanical on one side, and it needs to have the coil energized for the other side (off-hand, I don't recall which side is which), so if you are correct in saying "it's free", the only things that could be "wrong" is the spring is not pulling it back, or the toggle coil is getting power too late ? (failing MicroSwitch, {if "someone" has not "adjusted it"} ??). Ron Rich

Ron, as per before, the toggle shifts electrically for the A-side and falls back as the record is returned to the magazine.. The solenoid is energized only for about 3 seconds immediately after magazine detent and the shift is held mechanically after that.

I described earlier what the failure causes are. It is basic switch and contact maintenance.

You gentlemen must remember, I am fairly new to fixing jukeboxes. Though I have gone through the manual numerous times, retaining EVERYTHING contained within over 100 pages is beyond me. I'm getting old you know.

With that said, I will refrain from manhandling the transfer arm moving forward.

Rob, I will be looking into your suggestions (with manual in hand) today.

Thanks as always for the input.

Dane,
You're just a youngster---I am old, as I keep forgetting about that mechanical lock on the toggle shifter-- I do recall having had a problem with the lock, a long time ago--"somehow" ( I suspect "human help" here) the nylon tip was broken on it ?? Ron Rich

Si many terms & parts! Sitting in front of the unit right now trying to figure out which is the stipping switch & which is the can switch in question.

Ok so I manually depressed both an inside & outside pin yet still only getting side A play. Spring on the toggle shifter is working, returning the toggle shifter to its normal resting position. Basically the toggle shifter solenoid is not engaging. Question is why? If I understand the mechanism correctly, the left side switch should engage when a B side selection is made. I watched this switch & it does actuate. If I am reading the sequence of operation portion of the manual correctly, this should engage the toggle switch solenoid, correct? So by deduction the issue must somewhere between this switch and the coil(?).
