Wurlitzer OMT i84/f91 CD - Sound issue

Hello everyone,

A friend of mine has decided to start using his Wurlitzer again after many years in storage (it was originally located in his bar) and we are having a problem with the playback volume. Basically we can hear sound from both the internal speakers but it's not very loud and we can't seem to find a way of turning it up. We've tried the sound controls at the rear of the machine (which don't seem to do anything) plus I've tried sliding the two switches on the i84 amp and also checked both the Si1 and Si2 fuses which both appear unblown. The amp IS doing something in as much as the Treble and Bass dials both seem to work and add a richness to the output but you just have to sit very close to the machine in order to hear anything!!!!

I've been through various on-line manuals and I'm now stumped - I'm convinced this is probably something very simple but it's eluding me so far!

Any help or guidance would be gratefully received.

When it was in the bar was there a remote volume control installed? If so there could be your problem if it is now unhooked. I ran into this on a Rowe a while back. Just my 2 cents.

Steve,
Look at the service manual, and set up the speaker system, as shown, for "local speakers", and "local volume control(s?)" as shown. I think someone just unplugged the volume control in the rear--and probably this phono had "remote speakers" attached-- Also--read the manual about setting the switch on the local control-- Ron Rich

Well slightly longer than planned for a reply but I have managed to take another look at the machine and guess what? New info! The machine actually works at full volume for about 30 seconds and then goes all quiet after then so I'm guessing some sort of dry joint on a circuit board somewhere? (The owner says he hasn't ever used external speakers on the thing and the internal speakers used to kick out enough volume to make the roof tiles rattle!)

Does anyone have any alternative suggestions or would it just be easier to try and source a repair or a replacement in the long run?
