AMI A jewel casting light

by cg591 » Tue May 28, 2013 4:49 pm

Hi- does anyone have a photo or description of the lamp fixture that goes behind the jewel casting on an AMI A? I picked up a nice A, but no fixture. There is a hole drilled in the bottom right of the compartment, where I'm assuming the wire runs out of. But I don't even see any screw holes where the fixture may have been mounted. Was the light a later modification? Also, there is no ventilation in the compartment. I'm thinking it would become an Easy Bake Oven in there with the 40W, 10-1/2" replacement bulbs I've seen advertised. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Carl.

Hi Carl,
I have heard that there were several "variations" of the lighting system on that model. Perhaps the one you have never had a lamp installed ? I sure would be concerned about the easy bake oven---Maybe LED's are the way to go today, in this case ?? Ron Rich

Thanks Ron - I think you're right and maybe this one never had a light. Everything else seems original and not tampered with. The closed wooden box also serves as the cash bag enclosure, and it would definitely produce some hot coins if not other damage to the jewel glue etc. Naturally I think it would look really cool to see the jewels illuminated - there's no other source of backlight for them. As much as I'd hate to go modern with LED's, it would be a perfect application in this case. Either that, or I'll have to cut in some serious ventilation screens at least. I have to believe that any original boxes with lights had some kind of ventilation openings. Would still like to hear what others have seen or done. Thanks again, Carl.
