rockola 448 problem

by highlander68 » Sat Mar 07, 2015 1:18 am

Hi
I am new to this but I hope someone can help me with my problem
I have been working on my rockola 448 jukebox and slowly solving some problems myself
problem is when the gripper arm picks up the record and places it on the table that part works great but when record ends the gripper arm seems to jump up and fails to pick up record to return it to carriage??? can anyone steer me to the correct adjustment that is needed
Thanks bill

Hi Bill
The gripper assembly just needs some lubrication , if you lubricate , then when you play a record and when it gets to the end, gently hold down the gripper arm until the the record is gripped, but don' hold it down for too long in case a fuse might blow, might rectify itself after a few goes at that but it will eventually, might be better to use a record you dont want in case it breaks

We've been working on a sticky for jukebox lubrication. You might read through that first before spritzing electronic cleaner on everything. I will say that the gripper arm on Rockolas is probably the most common item to be affected by lack of proper lubrication. A search on here will help you find other people who have had that issue and how it was resolved.

Good luck!

Hi Bill,
As has been mentioned--Please read the above "stickies" ( and the "informational posts), before you do anything.
I would advise using 20 wt. ND oil in the following manor:
Remove a record, and select that slot. Stop the motor at the point that the gripper itself, is facing up. Gently. pull up on the "collar" of the gripper arm and saturate it with oil. Push down on the center post ( that would grab the other side of a record) and saturate it with oil, also.
Then saturate in between the two gears on the side of the gripper. Then oil the lower bearings and the "slide" ( where the in enters to decide which side is played), slightly. After that you will undoubtedly need to do as suggested above by clones--However, when he says not to hold too hard, I think I have a better way to say it--Just use one finger on the tip of the gripper arm--allow it to pull the gripper out from under your finger--this may need to be done 100 times, before the oil "works in"--do it on both sides of the records. Re-oil it as above after 50 or so operations. Have fun ! Ron Rich

Hi
Do the coins go through to the cash box or are they rejected? Maybe there's a coin stuck in the mechanism.Usually with a slug rejector it needs to be cleaned if it hasn't been used in a while , check the coin paddles , contacts and wiring, you can clock up credits by manually pushing the coin paddles you have to do it fairly quickly and release quickly,

Please read, and comply, with the first post at the top of the jukebox section--
I would strongly advise you not to "clean", nor touch coin switches ? Look for a fuse, and replace it ONLY with the correct type/size, after cleaning the slug rejector. Ron Rich
