Jeff,
Can't tell you how many were made, nor how many are left,--did you check "Tom's Zone" ?
I can tell you that the cabinet started out as a Wurlitzer produced item, named the "1050", and used their parts till they closed--then was made in Mexico, under the "Sonata" name using some (left-over ?) Wurlie parts and many "homemade" parts. It was then sold to RO, and used all RO guts--same as the 490 series.
Can also give you a "service hint" for it--
With power OFF, CAREFULLY un plug and remove the computer Open the computer, and then "split" the boards. Remove the battery--solder two long wires to the (+) and (-) terminals--put the board set back together, run the wires out thru a hole in the side and attach the new battery outside ("Velcrow" works well to stick it to the wall).

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the info, I did try "Tom's Zone" , but there is no information on the production of the Rockola 1000. I did buy one and it has the wurlitzer crest at the top not the rockola so I am guessing it was one of the first ones that rockola made before they put there own crest on the top of the jukebox. By the way mine has has an X after the 1000 on the model number , does that mean anything? Thanks again for your help, I hope you have a great day.....Jeff

Hi Jeff,

There is a number of closeup pictures of the 1987 Rockola 1000 on the Pinball Rebell website. All of the comments made by Ron are correct. By the late 80's all the main manufactures wanted to to produce a OMT type jukebox, Sound Leisure in the UK had bought the tooling rights from Wurlitzer which they sold under licence back to Rockola, Rowe Ami etc and made a fortune.

Hi Alan,
The above link won't work--Have you ever seen an AMi in this cabinet--or the "Sound Leisure" ?
They were not sold on this side of the pond, as far as I know-- Ron Rich

Hi Ron,

I have edited the link.

No I have only seen the Rockola mech in this type of cabinet but I know that Alan Black from Sound Leisure bought the tooling from Wurlitzer for the 1050 & 1015 and sold the American rights for $10 million way back in the late 80's it was the talk of the Blackpool Amusement Show that year when we had a stand at the show, I was making Rowe Ami hidaways in various cabinets at the time and of course selling the spare parts etc.
The OMT Antique Apperatus based on the 1015 had the Rowe Ami R-84 onwards Mechanism or CD mechanism in the early days before Rockola stopped using the Rowe Ami parts.

Sound Leisure have or had variations of the 850 Peacock, 950 Gazelle. and the 1015 and the 1050.

If you look at this link you will see alan stood by the first jukebox he made all those years ago, he is a bit older than me and when I first bought my first jukebox from him around 1977 we both were a lot thinner with dark hair.

Hello,
I bought a rockola nostalgia 1000 and it has an x after the 1000 , so the model number reads 1000X ,does anyone know what the"X" stands for, I have never seen one like this before , they all say model 1000 without an "X". Thanks for your time......Jeff

Hi Ron,
I bought a rockola model 1000 and it was set on free play , the person said I could put it back on taking money that there was a sequence of numbers to put in to get it back on money , do you know what that is? And I am still interested in knowing what the X is after the model number , mine says 1000X on the model number. Thanks for your time and Happy 4th of July......Jeff

Jeff,
I don't know what the "X" stands for, however I have worked on a number of them, and if you wish, you may email me photo's ( off list) and MAYBE, I can spot something different --
Coin/freeplay set-up is done with the buttons on the computer. Coin "combinations", along with "step by step" instructions are shown in the "service manual" for the model 490 ( which came with the "1000" model, along with a supplement). Ron Rich

Several years ago at the "jukebox Madness" in London we saw a "Nostalgia" by Sound Leisure - without knowing what we see .... and found out later.
But we got some photos for our archive in the meantime: http://www.jukebox-world.de/Forum/Archi ... talgia.htm
You can see that Sound Leisure's Nostalgia uses the German Harting mechanism which they started with.

Rock-Ola 1000 is for 160 selections. We do have a schematic which is for Rock-Ola 1000-3 (and 498) and it says "200/CD".
Earlier models which are a combo version for 80 vinyls and 10 (or 20) CDs are called e.g. 498 XCD.

So my guess is that
- modell 1000-x refers to this combo version
or
- the X is for the different versions Rock-Ola made and model 1000-x has 200 selections 45 pm only

Jeff, how many selections does your 1000-x offer? And is it vinyl only or CDs as well?

Kind regards - Hildegard

Hi Hildegard,
Mine is a 45 rpm 160 model , but has a farris wheel that would hold 100 record , but the extra 40 record slots have been blocked off with a piece of plastic so you can't put records in those slots. Is this a rare model? Many thanks for your help..........Jeff

Hi Jeff, I also cannot remember if I saw a different Rock-ola Nostalgia version. Model 1000 for sure has 160 selections only.
Three years ago we got a request from a Dutch Lady for a 1000-3 schematic - so at least one model must have been around (and not only our schematic ...

I checked the schematic now again and can see that a CD player connection is drawn. So I'd say model 1000-3 is a version for 45 rpm and CD.

Sorry, i can't find out more.

An option would be to check with our forum over here in Germany, too, plus also the British one. Maybe somebody in Europe can help on this question about the different versions.
