rowe R-91 volume problem

by mountaindew » Fri May 10, 2013 11:25 pm

My problem started with distorted sound and no control over the volume.I replaced all the transistors on the amp,now I have great sound but I still cant control the volume. Its stuck about half way.I tried a remote with the same outcome.I also replaced the volume pot with no difference. What could I try next

You replaced "ALL-- transistors--" ?? Why ??
Did you check that the control is wired correctly--jumper in it's correct place--all interconnections to the pre-amp board good ? Ron Rich

I was told that the transistors are the first thing to replace. It did make the sound 100% better. The jumpers,do you mean the black and red wire that connects to the top of the terminal bar

If you have problems with the volume control on a Rowe Ami amp of this era whether it is a 125, 130 or even a 250 watt amlifier make up a test volume control a 10k log control wired up to a five pin plug to go onto the volume contol pins. Connect pin 1 to pin 5 and link to one end of the control connect pin 3 to the wiper on the control. If the volume works you have an issue with the cables to the original volume connection or the way that it is linked on the amplifier compartment door.
