Seeburg USC2 - Proper way to bypass coin operation?

by rardis66 » Wed Oct 05, 2011 4:26 am

My Seeburg USC2 won't register anything when I press selection buttons. The lights are all on, the speakers thump to life, and the turntable turns. However, the selection lights don't come on when I press buttons, and the mechanism won't move. I see that a previous owner took all of the coin-operating stuff out. I understand from the guy who had it before me that it was rigged to always act as if you had a credit. I'm concerned this "rigging" may be what has gone bad. Anyone know the proper way to bypass the coin operation? I want to see if this one was done correctly. Thanks.

Very simple--just remove ("pull out" ) the pricing programmer from the front of the DTP-1--
Causes no problems, as that was in the design.
If your "select any single" lamp is lit, but it will not show a "1st digit" lamp, most likely, you have internal problems in the DTP-1. I STRONGLY suggest you not open it unless you know how to, and do, take static protective measures, and can repair electronics.

What if my "select any single" lamp is not lit?

If that's the case, first check the lamp--it MUST be a #1819, double hung style only.
If good, and correct, check the -27 and -13 Volt power supplies (assuming the DTP-1 is plugged in, and the price programmer is removed).

The DTP-1 is plugged in, and the price programmer is removed. Once I saw this, I assumed that something had to be fundamentally wrong with the "brains" of this unit. I folded out the DCC. The 15A fuse on the digital control center (F3104) was blown. That's an easy fix, but I've got to ask - what caused the fuse to blow?

STOP--right there--do not replace that 15 amp fuse with another 15 amp fuse !!!
If there was still a 15 amp fuse in that hole, it should have been changed to a 7.5 MAX, years ago. I usually put a 7 in that spot--I strongly suggest that you not install any value fuse till you track down the reason it blew--it is the "24vac circuit"--and if trouble shot by installing multiple fuses, WILL cause major damage.
The most common reason for that fuse "blowing" is a shorted trip coil--
I also would suggest that you contact me off forum, and purchase a copy of my "Seeburg Microlog Trouble Shooting Guide", and read it before going any further---
