Rockola 1426 colored cylinders

by Raven65 » Thu Nov 25, 2010 6:43 am

Hi, I just aquired a rockola model 1426. It has
2 colored cylinders on either side of front door.
Are these supposed to spin? It doesn't have any obvious
Mechanism for this. Wondering what parts may be
Missing. Thanks. Raven

Sounds like the motors are missing or broken. You may have more problems. Victory Glass sells the motors for $60 per pair. You have your choice of 3 or 5 RPM motors. A 1426 is a nice box to have especially if it's your first one. Is it set for 78s or 45s?

Hey mad Joe, it's an all original 78 machine.
It's not working, but it's all there and complete.
At least I thought so until I noticed there wasn't
Anything there to make those cylinders turn. It looks
Like it's been in a barn for 40 years. It's my second
Juke, my first was recently a rockola 414 Capri.
I'll look into finding those motors.
I've got a lot of cleaning to do!
Thanks for reply, raven

Hi Guy's
If my memory serves me--those do not have motors--look at the tops of them--covered,"slitted", sitting on a point??
Then they work via convection, as the lamp heats up, they should spin from the heat generated--Ron Rich

Hi Ron. Tubes are open on one end. Other end has a tin plate with
8 holes with a portion in middle with kinda like gear indentions in a
Circle. There is a small 2 ended piece that has a sharp point
That sits in the center hole there. Your description sounds correct, it would
Be cool if they work like that. I've seen those motors at victory glass,
What would they be for? Thanks. Raven

Raven,
Don't know which motors you saw at VG--they sell many types for different things--
On yours--the "point"of the rod must be kept clean, as well as the "inside" where it goes--ONE DROP of 20 wt. ND oil works wonders there- Ron Rich

Quick info update.
There were indeed convection run
Rotating tubes on pre-war rockolas.
The 1947 rockola 1426, used the 3rpm
Motors as standard.

Tip of the hat to you mad Joe!

Thanks for replys. Raven
