Hey Folks...
I have a local person here in Tucson that handled his mom's estate sale several months back. It was a great sale and just about everything sold except the stereo. It's in beautiful condition and, as far as I can recollect, everything works. I don't know how much advertising he did for the estate sale, but you'd think he would have gotten some nibbles here and surrounding areas.
Out of the blue, he emailed me and wants to GIVE this thing to me, because he's afraid it may go to someone that would probably gut it or abuse it in some way, and he definitely doesn't want to put it in storage. All that he asks for in return is that I transfer some of his tape reels to CD or another digital format. He said the reels were used to send "audio letters" to friends and relatives.
I have a similar GE (minus tape deck) stacked out in the garage (very dry) that I'm giving to a coworker, but I don't know where I'm gonna put this new one. It's roughly 69"L x 17"D x 25"H, and I've got so much furniture and consoles that you can't see any baseboards in any room...LOL! I so like the fact that it does play reels, so it may be a keeper and may have to part with a (big gulp...) Maggie!!!
Here are the pics he sent me. I'm not complaining or bragging, but sometimes feel like I could potentially become a hoarder, like those folks with 100+ cats in their house, and cannot afford to feed them all.
I'm honored at the fact that he even considered me, when he left a message on my phone originally asking about a reasonable sale price and I spoke with him a few times and thought no more of it.
Oh well, time to step back and see what actually needs to stay or go. What an addiction, I can't save them all. Pray for me, and thanks for reading my essay. --BB
