I removed all the filters, ferrite rings, and shield and just tried it with the capacitor on its own and it worked, selections could be made without cancellations. I have the cap directly soldered across the switch contact points, its a great product

On the suspicion that jumpering a cap across the switch (which resulted in long ~8" leads from switch contact to the cap), may have been a factor in worsening the cancellation issue (see my last post), I temporarily clipped the cap leads directly onto the switch contacts, effectively removing any long leads that might have influenced the issue.

The result ... resolution of the cancellation issue!! After many entries I had no cancellations.

So I think that's enough for me to solder the cap in and see what comes of it over repeated use.

I used a 0.1uF 50V ceramic.

It would be great if anyone else could verify this fix and report back to this thread, for future reference.

I soldered the 0.1uF 50 V cap onto the cancel switch terminals and spent the afternoon cleaning up the work bench.

Over the course of many selections I had only 1 cancellation. This is a significant difference over the, albeit infrequent cancellations, (but frequent enough to make this conclusion), that I had before installing the cap.

If voltage spikes are causing this, perhaps a higher capacitance value would have dampened the spike that caused the single cancellation.

Maybe, if anyone is going to try this, try a 0.22uf or a 0.47uF or even a 1.0 uF.
