Newbie with a Seeburg LS325 and a question

by Kerry » Sat May 16, 2015 4:03 am

Hi folks,
My name is Kerry and I've been tinkering with a very used Seeburg LS325. When I started it would load a record and immediately reject it. After getting a factory manual and spending some time with the circuitry it was obvious it was a mechanical issue. While doing the clutch adjustments I found the clutch rocker stuck on the horizontal pin. Once I got it loose it loaded and played!!! :-)

Plenty of other glitches. The previous owner had defeated all the other reject stuff so I re soldered them.

There were some numbers that wouldn't load at all and sometimes it seemed to load fairly randomly. I cleaned the tormat contacts but it didn't really seem to make any difference. Entering any number with a 0 would cause a re-set and re-select. I thought the next thing to do would be to disassemble and clean the keypad. It was quite clean already. Once I got it back together every number entered does a re-set and re-select. :-/ I do realize the numbers need to start with a 1 or a 2. I also noticed that it never displays the 1 or 2 at the far left of the display now although it did before. Point me in a direction, I'm at a loss as to what my next step should be.

Thanks,
Kerry

Hi Kerry,
Well, I would humbly suggest a copy of my "Seeburg MicroLog Trouble Shooting Guide" should be of help !
I describe, among other things the proper factory procedure for cleaning the DES--PM me if you wish to purchase it, and/or my "Seeburg Mechanism Guide"--
The Service manual has the wiring diagram of the selection now playing display--the 1st "one. and "two" are controlled by a switch on the side of the tone arm carriage--Ron Rich

Thanks for the suggestions Ron. Unfortunately my funds are pretty much tied up fixing some damage on a nostalgia dragster project (put a rod out) and the car that pulls her (replacing bad HIGH mileage engine in 59 Plymouth) so the manuals will have to wait.

Yeah, the S1109 selection indicator switch had a bit of oil and was not making good contact all the time. Cleaned it and the indicator lights are now working better. Of course that is not related to the actual problem of not being able to enter a 1 or 2. I've pulled the DES again and will sit down with it, a VOM, and the manual and see what I can learn. The wiring diagram in the manual concerning the DES is a bit vague. Not sure how the numbers relate to the actual pins on the card.

Got it! Found that one of the contacts on #1 would touch while not pressed. Made sure all contacts were down a consistent amount, re cleaned the contact plate with brakeclean and burnished with a dry paper towel. Put it back together and the hundreds diget along with the 0 button are working fine. Tried to confuse the tormat and it seems to be working fine as well now. Go figure....

I've tinkered with and build just about everything but I could see this jukebox thing getting addictive! :-)
