Ron, I don't recall having a problem with the numbers coming off the pinbank -only the carousel. I suggested it because Brooks stated that it was 'gunked-up" . I always hated working on filthy mechs. Now, the machines I've had out for decades fall into that category..and I'm too lazy to deal with it again.

Yep, mine adds one credit per button press so I'd like to change that to one button press yields 5 credits. I've also noticed that when I turn it on, it takes two presses to register athe first credit. After the second press, credits are added with each button press. I can't remember though if it does that every time.

Hi Rob,
I've seen "lotza them" with those numbers washed off--I have never washed on myself either--Just washed Seeburgs-- JC--See your service manual for coin setting instructions--

I'll sort the credit thing out in time. Today I was looking at the various points that need lube according to the manual and then finding them in the machine. I realized there's going to be quite a bit of disassembly so it looks like I won't be listening to vinyl anytime soon. I just can't sorta clean a part because I can only get to part of it so the disassembly will begin soon. Since things will be apart I'm going to refinish all the metal frames/cases/covers etc and likely refinish the cabinet interior.I made the "mistake" of watching the guy's vid on here of restoring 2300S and was blown away. Simply stellar jobs done on all aspects of that restoration to say the least.
I've restored EM pinball machines before so I have experience with this so it should be fairly straightforward. Famous last words...

I found an amplifier guru local to me so I'll be bringing my amp and service manual to him. Should I also bring the power supply and junction box? I've heard many times to definitely get the amp checked out but not much about the other two.
Comments?
Thanks.

The amp needs the power supply to operate--if he's a "guru", he should have told you so--
The J box has very little in it that can be "checked"when outside the phono---nothing to do with sound--

i hadn't contacted him before i posted on here. i just checked out his website and read the testimonials. here's his site:
classictubeaudio.com
so i've removed the amp and power supply, labeled all the cables, and took photos.
i'll start a new thread with the process of disassembly (and many questions, no doubt) and restoration. i'm not sure to what level i'll take the restoration but i'm thinking a pretty complete job. it'll be sitting next to a Gottlieb Diamond Jack pinball that i did a ground-up restoration on. the only thing i'm not sure about from a cosmetics point of view is how to handle the scratches in the decorative metal. the pinball just has two metal stainless rails that i regrained which was simple. in this case, i don't want to have brand new baltic birch veneer sides, a pristine blue background, etc and then have scratched metal pieces. it just looks amateur so i'll have to figure something out and research more what member Gbak did.
anyway, i also wanted to say thanks for everyone's help on here. it got me started on the right track.
and lastly, just how hard is it to find the first version of an AMI Continental? That won't be in the budget for probably years but damn what a great looking machine.

Take your time--it will turn out well--do your research on the metal--some of it can be polished, other stuff will need re-plating--
As for the Conty 1's-- not too often--see more of the Conty 2's for sale-- One caution on all Conti's--watch the neck of the title strip holder--OFTEN these are broken-or at least cracked. MUST BE removed when transporting !!!! Ron Rich

Thanks Ron.
It's gonna be a long project but I hope to have it done by Christmas.
Regarding the Contis, I'm sure there are plenty of horror stories of the heads breaking off or close to it during shipping. I prefer the colors and the starburst accent piece of the 1st version but I'd count myself lucky to have either model.

You are welcome--
I prefer the orange color, but I also wished they had continued to put the starburst on the grill. I have seen a couple, that have had the starburst added--beautiful, IMHO-- Ron Rich

JC, be sure to copy and include the machine wiring schematics when you bring the amp to your 'guru".

There are two areas where contacts must be temporarily jumped to operate the amp away from the mech.

They are:

-Play control relay . It is in either the power supply or amp chassis -I can't recall which one.

-Safety switch. This is on the mech and kills all operation if a record fails to fully reenter the carousel.

The amp schematic will show dotted lines to indicate the required jumpers. They occur on the round 11-pin plug.

You can see them here: http://www.verntisdale.com/schem/545a.jpg Look to the lower center.

That starburst accent piece on the Conti 1 makes such a huge, mid-century styling statement that to me, is integral to the whole design theme of the machine. They must have discontinued using it because of cost reasons. If I had a Conti 2 I'd add it as well.
I provided the guy with the schematics as well as copied and emailed him the additional info provided by Rob so thanks for that.
Today I'm going to clean out a proper space in the garage to facilitate the project which means moving all of my woodworking equipment since I won't be needing it for awhile. Well, I'll need my router for the cabinet veneer work but that's a small item.
