i hadn't contacted him before i posted on here. i just checked out his website and read the testimonials. here's his site:
classictubeaudio.com
so i've removed the amp and power supply, labeled all the cables, and took photos.
i'll start a new thread with the process of disassembly (and many questions, no doubt) and restoration. i'm not sure to what level i'll take the restoration but i'm thinking a pretty complete job. it'll be sitting next to a Gottlieb Diamond Jack pinball that i did a ground-up restoration on. the only thing i'm not sure about from a cosmetics point of view is how to handle the scratches in the decorative metal. the pinball just has two metal stainless rails that i regrained which was simple. in this case, i don't want to have brand new baltic birch veneer sides, a pristine blue background, etc and then have scratched metal pieces. it just looks amateur so i'll have to figure something out and research more what member Gbak did.
anyway, i also wanted to say thanks for everyone's help on here. it got me started on the right track.
and lastly, just how hard is it to find the first version of an AMI Continental? That won't be in the budget for probably years but damn what a great looking machine.
